Samsung is working on a new file-sharing application that uses blockchain technology to facilitate an easier and secure way of P2P file sharing. Samsung has been a long fan of blockchain and cryptocurrencies having implemented cryptocurrency wallets in some of its models. The company has previously partnered with several blockchain and crypto projects such as Gemini, Enjin, Stellar, and Tron. Samsung’s New Blockchain-Based File Sharing App The new file-sharing app called Private Share will use blockchain technology to prevent information leakages that are not authorized by the sender. The app comes with high-security specs such as anti-screenshot features. Samsung however did emphasize that it would not be able to control those who do take screenshots using unauthorized means such as taking the information using external devices. The announcement release stated: “Recipients will also be prevented from resharing the files. The app will not provide them with an option to reshare the file. Screenshots would ostensibly be disabled as well, but there’s nothing stopping anybody from taking a picture of that device’s screen with another device.” Samsung Can Never Access User Information Users don’t need to stress about their private files being spied on by the tech giant. The P2P encryption during file sharing assures that Samsung can never access the information of its users. As emphasized in the announcement release: “Private Share is going to allow users to share their files privately. It’s the same concept as ephemeral messaging. The sender will be able to set an expiration date for the files. The shared files would automatically be deleted from the recipient’s device after expiry.” The launch of Private Share has still a long way to go. It is speculated that the app might be launched along with Samsung’s premium smartphone Galaxy S21 by January 2021. The app will then quickly be rolled out to previous flagships and even mid-range devices.
