The parent company of BitMEX, 100x Group, has appointed Alexander Höptner as its new chief executive officer. Höptner is the former executive at the German stock exchange Borse Stuttgart GmbH. He recently played a key role in managing BISON, a crypto trading subsidiary of Börse Stuttgart. Moreover, Höptner is taking over his position at the company by early January 2021. BitMEX Appoints Alexander Höptner as New CEO Alexander Höptner will replace interim CEO Vivien Khoo after Arthur Hayes had to step down in the wake of twin lawsuits from the Commodities Futures Trading Commission and the Department of Justice. The newly appointed CEO will report directly to 100x Group Chairman Dr. David Wong and subsequently join the board of directors. In the announcement release, Dr. David Wong, chairman of 100x Group, stated: “Alex joins us at a timely moment when the company is undergoing a transformational journey into our next stage of growth and development, and I am confident that with his experience he will make a major contribution” Höptner has previous experiences in working for an executive position at Deutsche Börse AG, operator of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. He worked there for almost 15 years before leaving it in 2016 to find two startups for trading virtual assets. New CEO Comes With Key Leadership Experience Under Höptner’s leadership, the Börse Stuttgart exchange became one of the key pioneers in digital asset trading in Germany. The exchange became the country’s first regulated crypto trading platform. It also went on to become the European Union’s first conventional exchange to become a regulated crypto multilateral trading facility.
