Gab, a social media platform, accuses the Biden Administration of suppressing dissent and condemns “oligarch tyrants” before it goes offline after refusing to pay a Bitcoin ransom to a hacker, who stole gigabytes of user data through an exploit. An “internal error” message is shown and told to try again, announced by Gab on Monday afternoon via their Twitter handle. Gab Slams “Oligarch Tyrants” for Suppressing ‘Dissenters’ In its tweet, Gab called the US a nation that is under the occupation of a handful of oligarch tyrants. The tweet reads as “Now we are being ransomed and threatened by criminal hackers. The media cheers them on and supports their efforts. “ “Banks are banning us. Hackers are attacking us. Journalists are libeling us. Why?” Because – the US “a totally subverted nation under the occupation of a handful of oligarch tyrants who use their power to destroy dissenters.” It is seen that Gab went offline after the display of ransom notes on several verified accounts on the social media platform. The ransom notes signed “cApTaIn JaXpArO,” claiming credit for the hack and accusing CEO Andrew Torba of lying to his “despicable users” and not concerning their privacy. Gab Goes Offline after Hacker Claimed Hack is “Fully Compromised” Hacker’s name is a reference to Captain Jack Sparrow from Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean”. The hacker claimed that last week’s hack is fully compromised. This includes 50,000 emails along with 7,000 passwords, 35 million public, and 3 million private posts. Acquiring of 831 verification documents – which the ransom was all about is also claimed by the hacker. In response, Gab refused to pay eight Bitcoins for them. Gab responded by saying “they had patched the security vulnerability and blasted DDoSecrets as federal criminals who published ‘Blueleaks’ police documents in June 2020.” After benign offline for several hours, another tweet from Gab is addressed. The tweet states that Gab and other alt tech platforms were being targeted on political grounds.
