Asus Launches RTX 30 Series GPUs With Feature to Limit Ether Mining

Asus GPUs Mining

Asus has finally taken note of gamer woes in its latest redesign of the RTX 30 series GPUs. The company has added a revamped edition of its RTX 3070 graphics card to the lineup, which comes with a pre-installed Lite Hash Rate(LHR) feature to limit Ether mining. Asus is expected to give RTX 3060s and 3080s similar updates in the future. Asus Acknowledges Ether Mining Causes Shortage of GPUs The company’s latest redesign of its GPUs is motivated by the global shortage of processors caused by crypto mining. With the LHR feature, the new GPUs will essentially halve their current Ether mining rates to 25 MH/s. To put it in perspective, hash rates are used to calculate a system’s efficiency and speed at mining. Greater speeds lead to easier resolution of cryptographic puzzles.  In the last few years, demand for high-end processors has spiked among cryptocurrency miners. The trend can be attributed to their ability to swiftly perform mathematical tasks needed for mining. While Bitcoin can only be mined on specialized processors called ASICs, altcoins such as Ethereum can easily be mined using GPUs. Meanwhile, the internet has been witnessing a raging debate between gamers and miners. Gamers have repeatedly accused crypto miners of wreaking havoc on the GPU market by hoarding top-of-the-line models. Many have found it impossible to procure the latest GPUs, forcing them to resort to scalpers on eBay and Reddit.  Most Features in GPUs Will Remain Identical to Predecessors According to the Asus website, the LHR feature will be implemented on the TUF, KO, and DUAL versions of its RTX 3070 cards. The company will adhere to NVIDIA’s guidelines for adding the LHR tag to its product page and packaging.  Apart from the LHR feature and branding changes, the new range will remain identical to its predecessors in terms of performance. Asus claims that it will sport the same number of cores and TMUs, ROPs, and clock speeds. This means that barring the lower hash rate, these processors will deliver the same exceptional gaming experience as the previous series.
